George lll Oak Welsh Dresser Circa 1790-1800 .
Wales is renowned not only for its beauty , rivers and mountains but also its dressers these being given the title of Welsh Dressers and this one just happens to be a beauty .
Seen as the focal point to most Welsh houses in times gone by and not out of place in a kitchen as well as a sitting room these stunning pieces of our history are not only beautiful to look at but also extremely practical .
The Dresser comes it two parts the top being known as the rack and the lower section as the base .
The Rack in this case is beautifully proportioned with a cornice above shaped frieze which has iron cup hooks and bog oak heart inlays .
The sides also being shaped shows off the craftsman's ability making a dresser rack with constant interest in progression sweeps that house and 3 faced shelves, the bottom shelf being incorporated into into a lower drawer section these are known as spice drawers .
The Base of the dresser consists of two opening cupboard doors with working locks and six live drawers known as live drawers as other types of dresser sometimes have 3 what are known as dummy drawers unlike the live drawers these are not designed to open and just give an appearance of working .
