Here we have a beautiful early 18th century Walnut longcase clock by John Smith of Macclesfield 1680-1756 .
The clock itself is a square 12 inch brass dial 8 day longcase which strikes on the a single bell on the hour . The works is in perfect working order and is of the 4 pillar variety with all the hallmarks of a very fine clockmaker . The dial has a beautifully engraved centre with silvered chapter , date ring and seconds disc the engraved half hour indicators are stunning the workmanship of these hand carved pieces really shows the kind of craftsmanship that goes into the production of this clock .
The dial and works are encased in a stunning Walnut case , with a flat top above a blind fret crown-board the glazed hood door which covers the dial being flanked by readed columns and turned caps all this above a long door with shaped profile again flanked by readed columns and turned caps leading down to a base with a square panel standing on shaped bracket feet .
All in all a stunning piece the photographs do not do it justice .
