The Georgian period was a very flamboyant interesting time in British history which is reflected in its furniture aswell as fashion . The beautifully turned central column or as we know it gun barrel is supported by the Georgian trait of swept legs terminating with brass castors . The gun barrel has been beautifully turned which is typical of the era with Cuban Mahogany being the timber of choice for its craftsmen .
Originally brought into Britain from the Caribbean as ballast on ships it's strength and beauty were soon recognized .
