Oak Charles ll Joint Stool Circa 1670 . The definition of a joint stool is quite simple really " A low wooden stool having turned legs with all parts joined by a mortise joint . " in reality it is so much more and extremely important in provincial areas this stunning piece has a oval-moulded edged top with flatterned arch-shaped top rails . The top rails with a central run-moulding which is beautifully shaped connect through columnar turned legs joined around the base by a plain stretcher. On one side the top rail has the makers mark . The makers mark is carved just above the central run-moulding and to me looks like WP . Size : Height 23 inchs x Width 20 Inchs x Depth 11.5 Inchs . Price : £1700 . |
