A Mid 18th Century Oak Cwpwrdd Tridan Circa 1760 .
The Cwpwrdd Tridarn symbolizes Welsh furniture of the time it's practicality is as important as its style . Wales is a country built on myths legends and stories and the Cwpwrdd Tridan has its own story one which says that the Tridarn would be presented to the daughter of a family in sections hence the name " Tridarn " ( 3 Pieces ) the base being given when she comes of age ( the Welsh version on the bottom draw ) the centre being given when she marry's with his and hers compartments and the top canopy section presented when the first child is born to store all it's belongings there may or may not be some truth in this all we know is this wonderful piece of iconic Welsh furniture really sums up the quality and standard of Welsh craftmanship during the mid 18th century .
The canopy with shelf sits above a centre section which has 2 fielded panel doors which flank a centre fielded panel secret door which opens to reveal 5 short drawers and 1 long drawer all with Yew wood knobs . The base of the Tridarn has 2 arched fielded panel doors with brass knobs and escutcheons plates the sides from canopy to base have all got fielded panels .
This piece has a beautiful honey colour and Is in wonderful condition .
