| JOHN OWEN OF LLANRWST 30 HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK CIRCA 1743 .
Here we have what can only be described as one of if not the oldest longcase clock to come out of the Owen family clockmaking business in Llanrwst .
This beautiful demure longcase clock shows all the hallmarks of John Owens craft in the early days even down to his own personal engraved signiture on the dials chapter ring .
The case being carved at a later date but shows all the traits of the early casemakers of Llanrwst the joints used being the same as they used on Welsh Dressers made in the town so probably the same carpenters the case is made from solid Welsh Oak which could be found on the hill just above the town at the time of its making , it has a wonderful stong dark colour .
With a 30 hour works this clock strikes hourly on a single bell using a single finger the chapter ring being signed and having Roman numerials with Fleur de Lis half hour indicators .
The Oak case with simple straight lines the carving of a Welsh Dragon in the centre panel of the door .
30 hour longcase clocks by what some say is the best clockmaker to come out of Wales are extremely rare the date on this one is not only definied by the design of the clock but the biggest give away is that on the inside of the clock works John Owen has practiced his engraving on the clock wheels expecting noone would ever dismantle the clock and see it again .
The engraving consists of his name , his date of birth , age at time of making the clock , date he practiced his engraving and the name of his father also a beautiful flower all this would be lost forever if we hadn't put the clock through our cleaning process which we do with all our clocks the engravings have all been photographed so the new owner can see them truely a beautiful clock both inside and out and a one of a kind
